There are many places to explore outside of the city.  Day trips and excursions can be arranged to explore the surrounding areas. The lush vegetation and countryside of the Dragon Well Mountains, Lingyin Temple and Wetlands can be done in a day.  The major metropolitan city of Shanghai is less than an hour away. Extended day trips are needed for Yellow Mountain which is about 5 hours by bus and Guilin and Yangshuo which is a 2 hour flight from Hangzhou.
