There is a common Chinese saying used to describe Hangzhou and it’s sister city of Suzhou:

“上有天堂，下有苏杭”  [Shang you tian tang, Xia you Su Hang]

The direct translation is “above, there is heaven and below, there is Suzhou and Hangzhou which means that Hangzhou and Suzhou exemplifies the beauty of heaven on earth.  It is evident when you visit and see the water canals and gardens of Suzhou and the lush mountains and the majestic Westlake of Hangzhou.
